I’m so grateful that this wasn’t my first experience with therapy; if it had been, I would think the whole profession was a joke.

The therapist injected her political beliefs onto my session, creating a huge issue out of something that I did not feel warranted discussion. It felt like the equivalent of someone tending to a minor scratch on your face when your arms have been cut off. When I tried to steer the session onto the topics that I came to address, she would not let go of this very minor thing that clearly bothered her personally. I didn’t get to address any of the issues I scheduled the appointment for; when I tried to discuss them, she glazed right over them.

She also breached my trust by undeservedly threatening to report a family member that she knew nothing about despite two prior therapists rightly having no issue with the same person. This was within the first 10 minutes of meeting me, and I did not feel like I could be honest with her after that point.

I’ve had a few days to process the session, and I realize now that I’m looking for a more objective experience. If you hold very liberal views and don’t mind integrating them into your sessions, this place might be fine for you; if you want an experience that leaves politics at the door, look elsewhere.
