I would not recommend taking a family member or loved one to this hospital. I was told that I had had a stroke. The. When they discovered I was uninsured, I was immediately sent home. Without seeing a Dr. No results were given for any of the tests they did. My wife went and got the results 10 days later only to find out that I hadn't had a stroke but had a severe UTI. A breakdown of the test results showed my prostate to be in good health. However, they NEVER checked my prostate. This place is really terrible. Not even worthy of the 1 Star I had to give.

My son and daughter in law had there baby here and some of the nurses were sweet a few were rude and didn’t listen to her when she was ready to push she went through so much unnecessary pain because they wouldn’t listen. After having the baby they didn’t ask them if they wanted to sleep while nurses took care of the baby and they also didn’t show them how to give her a bath before they decided at 10 pm they were going to discharge them. They sent them home after 12 a.m. in 22degree weather with a brand new baby when they had a 45 min drive home. Just very disappointed in the care they showed to new parents with a brand new baby!

Brain and spine Dr. explained everything in words I can understand. Very caring and understanding. Best Drs I have had since my diagnosis. Very short wait time. This is my place to go for now on

I have to say I have had to wait, but understand the professionals have to triage the ER to see who needs help first.
Communication is a problem no matter where you go or work.
Please have some compassionately for these overworked underappreciated people.
I have overall had very good experiences at the Carbondale hospital. I've gone there for
a variety of reasons and I find you are treated the way you treat others.
I have so many caring wonderful people at this hospital and appreciate the care. I know they work long hours and are frequently understaffed as most hospitals seem to be these days.

When some one cuts the tip of their finger deep with a grinder they should NOT be left to wait for hours in the waiting room ER!!! We will be going to Sparta from now on. At least they get you back and seen faster !

My boyfriend had worked at this place a year almost 2 and they fired him and had security walk him out. He kept telling the security officers they didn’t need to walk him out they still did and when he started his car they started BEATING on his window so hard telling him to leave that they broke his window. He asked them to stop and they said that they could beat on it if they wanted to. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone! Do better

Things are improving at Carbondale memorial hospital !
Great team of surgeons & specialists - just try to avoid a bunch that calls its self
'Shawnee Health' - their 'playing dumb' approach to Healthcare is almost certainly costing lives.
When I say 'playing dumb' - I'm referring to an unspoken practice of ignoring patient history vs. cost cutting measures, since it is a 'business', they can ignore patient history to try & make impression that they have your best interest at heart when nothing could be farther from the truth. An old family Dr. Friend told me long ago how insurance companies view patients - "it is cheaper for them to die." So, avoid the cost cutting health care from the Shawnee crew - especially the Murphysboro location, if you want to live hassle fee. To put your trust in folks that appear to be way too happy all of the time was suspicious at first. Now that actual inept conduct has taken place & a patient suffered greatly because of this 'playing dumb' routine, something needs to be done to address the incompetence before someone loses their life because of an underlings cavalier attitude. It is just a matter of time.

I’m currently a patient here and after being here almost three days I’m not happy anymore and want to go home. The nurse argued about my diet acting like she knows more than me about Nutrition Facts which I have a college degree in Psychology and took a nutrition class and she had no right to argue with me and make me cry 😢 now I’m stuck here because I have an IV pick line or I’d pack up my stuff, rip my IV out and leave! If I’m not discharged soon I may have to go against medical advice and call the police and see if they will help me get out of here!
