Not sure why I bothered giving them my insurance information, because they never attempted to bill my insurance even once. Instead, they insisted they needed to put my debit card on file, and then instantly charged me full price the second each of my visits finished. I was billed for 60min visits, even though my visits were 25min-35min tops each time. Gurnee Counseling Center charged me half a grand without my consent and without trying to get my insurance to cover the visits for approximately 90 minutes of therapy total. How disappointing.

Gurnee Counseling helped me with an aging family member that suffers from depression and grief from a recent loss. Donna was a wealth of support and information about the aging process, dementia and generally how to help my family member achieve a better quality of life. Two years after our initial meeting my family member has achieved her goals and is in a much better place emotionally, physically and mentally. While dementia can’t be cured, Donna’s direct approach and expertise led us to understand our family member better and make informed decisions that were in her best interest. I am grateful for her and the team at Gurnee Counseling.

I was scheduled appointments without being informed that my insurance wasn't in network.

I should have been informed of this at the very beginning, but the scheduling department didn't even bother to confirm my benefits at my initial appointment, and they informed me months later that I needed to call my insurance company to check, even though that's their job. I figured that I was covered because they processed my insurance card and were booking appointments.

I was 18 at the time as well and had no experience with this sort of thing, and I was completely taken advantage of. The scheduling department shoved their responsibilities onto me and booked appointments knowing that I may not have been covered.

Do not seek counseling here. I had no issue with my therapist but the scheduling department is completely unprofessional.

Been going here since high school, been seeing my counselor for over 8 years and i love the safety and comfort they bring to the table. It's hard to find a counselor that works for you, so every person is different but i really trust this place and it's therapists. Appointments are mostly flexible, billing is open and forgiving, and there are genuinely good people willing to help you if you need it. Again, finding a therapist is hard work but i really trust mine. Hope this helps.

VERY shady business practices. It was decided that our daughter would have four sessions/ One a week for four weeks. As discussed and agreed upon by her counselor. Well The counselor CONTINUED to call our daughter for THREE months !! Without our knowledge. They THEN billed our insurance. When we were sent a bill for the remainder due we called and the accounts payable person argued that was never agreed upon and we will pay the remainder due or our account would be sent immediately to collections. Very very sad. Added insult to injury.

I called to make an appointment, it took me a few days to work up the courage to do it. I asked to make an appointment and the receptionist asked if I had insurance, I said yes but I wasn't sure how much it would cover. I was willing to pay the difference but we never even got that far. She took my name and number and said she would have to call me back. Never even asked what kind of services I was looking for. Still waiting to hear back hours later. I'm very disappointed, I will not bother going here.

I do not recommend this practice. The final issue for me was after my teenager and her counselor had an issue that ended their session after only 5 minutes the counselor has never reached out to me to discuss.

I had one session and I had a family emergency and needed to reschedule my next appointment. I was told I would receive a call back from the therapist to reschedule.. let’s say it’s been about six weeks now and I still haven’t been reschedule for my THERAPY appointment. Soooooo disappointed.
