Wonderful and freeing are the words I would use to describe the effects of a close family member having Liz (Elizabeth S) as a therapist. She has been more than just effective in her care and insight. The results thus far (we are not finished) have been greater than we ever thought possible. Liz you are Amazing! Thank you so much!

I contacted Goodman during the pandemic when practically everyone was struggling, and there weren't enough therapists to go around. To their credit, their office personnel confirmed my insurance, asked what I was looking for, and put me on a waiting list.

My first therapist was Dr. Suarez, who specializes in eating disorders. This possibly explains why she seemed inept at addressing my issues, which had to do with childhood trauma. She said things like, "You're really having a hard time letting go, aren't you?" and once said that she felt the length of time someone should receive therapy should be limited, or "It's just talking and talking." She asked me about members of my family and said she was drawing a diagram so she could understand the players, but it sounded to me like she was driving in her car. I had just finished tearfully relating a particularly painful experience when the call dropped, right in the middle of the session. I sat there crying and waiting for her to call me back, but she never did. I did not say anything at that point, because I had waited so long to see someone. Then she was a no-show for our next telehealth appointment. I told the office what happened, and they immediately assigned me to Evelyn Connelly, who I liked very much. I find it interesting that according to Goodman's website, Dr. Suarez is still employed there; I wouldn't think that the kind of behavior she exhibited would be acceptable in a professional setting.

The other thing that continually caused me a lot of anxiety and stress was their billing practices. Like so many practices, they just email you a pdf and expect you to print your own statement if you need it for your taxes. While this has become common practice, to me it is the epitome of laziness and rudeness to expect patients/private individuals to own and maintain a printer for the convenience of businesses that just decide they don't want to do it anymore. I asked for a paper bill and was told that they didn't do that. I thought this was apathy on the part of the billing person, but when I complained I was told that it came from higher up. So the management is so stingy that they won't even send you a physical bill if you ask for it. Another common practice that I hated is that they require a credit card to be held on file so they can bill you, which basically says to me "We can't trust you to pay us."

I was also bothered by the fact that it wasn't their policy to bill secondary insurance. You were supposed to send in your own claims, but the billing person wouldn't send the paperwork I needed to file a claim. The office manager, who is a lovely person, agreed to handle that for me, which, along with my fondness for my therapist, kept me hanging on a bit longer.

I also found it frustrating that they never answered the phone. You always had to leave a message, and if you weren't available when they called back, you wound up playing phone tag. Then they got a portal and sent out an email telling you not to call them. I forgot and called them to do what I thought was a favor, which was to be proactive and let them know that I had a new credit card number. The woman was so condescending; she said "You signed up for our portal. Do you remember doing that?" Like I'm an idiot. Come to think of it, I probably was an idiot for putting up with the management's attitude, rudeness, and complete lack of respect or appreciation for their patients.

In the end I left, and I'm not sorry.

I always learned something about myself every time I came here, which is why I will give them 2 stars. However, I never felt my issues were important. Without getting into too much detail, I have a major unresolved issue that I talked about at almost every session and I don't know if the doctor didn't know how to handle it or just didn't want to. The last straw for me was when I texted (her preferred method of scheduling) to reschedule an appointment and she NEVER responded (its been almost a year). That was unbelievably unprofessional and unethical for a psychologist who is actively treating a patient. The only upside was working with Dr. Berthold to be diagnosed with ADHD. He is the real deal!

Dr. Stokesberry has been invaluable in my journey to personal wellness. She has walked with me through many of life’s challenges with a personable professionalism that makes her very easy to talk to, but also enables her to point me in a different direction, or help me see things in a different light when necessary. She cares, and wants me to succeed, and it’s easy to tell. She’s about as excited as I am when I make progress. I am definitely in a much better place and my world is a much more positive world because of her. I really don’t know where I’d be without her. I would highly recommend her to anyone. Ten thousand stars if possible.

Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good is the title of the book I am reading and it fits very well how I feel talking to Dr. Goodman. His support on my life journey has been very helpful. In fact he's better than good. I have learned a great deal and welcomed the help overcoming my bumps in the road. I would definitely recommend him. Two thumbs up.

Dr. Kevin Cubala is the best-- he has helped me immensely. I have been working with him since 2012 and I am amazed at how far I've come, how much I've learned, and how much I've grown with his help. He makes me extremely comfortable which has allowed me to open up beyond what I thought I was capable of, both in our sessions and in my every day life. And even on my roughest days, I always find myself laughing at some point during our meetings... I not only appreciate his work, but I genuinely enjoy his company. I truly owe so much of my mental health to Dr. Cubala.

The office is always very easy to communicate with and I have had no problems with them to date. I am very happy at David Goodman and Associates, and I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Cubala 🙂

Dr. Harje made matters worst for my daughter and for my family. Also broke the HIPAA Law about my family health issues. Calling DCFS on a parent from false allegations from ex and when having no evidence at all and making life difficult for the family, then simply telling me, “Oh oops, Sorry.”
Daughter said Dr. Harje never really allowed her to talk during sessions. A waste of time...
